STOP HATIN ON FRUITY LOOPS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
For all producers out there with MPC's, MC 909's,Reason, etc......STOP HATIN ON FRUITY LOOPS!!!All producers don't have bread for all of that equipment. If you do have that equipment and don't hate, big-ups to you. For those of you who know my music, you know I do a lot of sampling. That's just how I get down.God blessed me with a mind of a wise man, and if you know me you know I have an old soul. With that being said, It's only right that I sample. FL Studio is an excellent program to use if you want to get into beat making. It is very user friendly, and is capable of producing album, mainstream, industry beats. You just have to know what to do with it. You can't make a hit record with the majority of the factory sounds that come with the program, that's why it is essential that you come up with a style, and start building up your collection of vst plugins, virtual instruments, and sounds. I would suggest that you create your own sounds. Do a little tweaking. Get a top notch sound card for your computer as well. This way you can have good clarity while you are making the beat. Utilize the mixer as well as the effects, and make sure you mix all of your sounds individually. You can assign them all to individual channels. Just go through the program, play with some knobs and see what they do. I can't tell you all of the mind blowing things that I found out about FL. I would be giving up my secrets that put the finishing touch on my style of beats. For those who knock sampling, and FL, do your research and see how producers are eating off this technique. Don't sweat the technique! LOL...If you have listened to Eric B. & Rakim, you would know that song. Look at how they hate on the great 9th Wonder. A perfect example to prove my point. He is a legend in the production game and is a sample based producer.Oh and did I leave out the $25,000 and Up check's he gets per beat. Oh and did I leave out that he uses FL Studio. LOL.........Listen to the kind of hate 9th gets. I get the same hate from people around me.Some say it's criticism, but I know the difference between critcism and hate. Believe me, I take criticism as a way to get better.Take a look at this video with 9th breakin FL Studio and his sampling down.A visual example for you all.

Black Boy Lost: Written By Matcy P
Another little boy......born in the ghet-to. Father is a nobody.Mother working like a slave tryna make ends meet for her new boy. She is strong and wants to make the family thing work out, but the father is corrupted by the streetz. The Father will let his belly feast before his son eats. Damn............the boy feels weak. And is thinking about his situation and how to retreat. The only medicine is to penetrate the soul from where his love will slowly leak. Now that's deep. How does he regain? When his family is too blended and dysfunctional to reframe. His guys and most of his cousins are falling for the "game." And if you think logically, all games come to an end just like the "game." Where it is grimy, reckless, and lonely. Yeah! Lonely! And you call them grimy niggaz yo homies? When the chips are down, and the heat is on, and your freedom's gone, what legacy have you built for the next lost black boy to lead on? You have the ability to be strong and patient my lost black boy. You have the ability to get away from the every minute every hour negativity that's around you my lost black boy. You also have the ability to gang bang and be wild my lost black boy..............What will you choose? And just to let you know, that last option is a lose lose. All I can say is be wise my lost black brother, and make sure you don't get fooled.

PROGRESSION: Written By Matcy P
Progression.........We all will not progress. Some are too weak, and will only stay in one spot. The weak minded. The one with low self-esteem who doesn't try to make life better for themselves, and continue to try to impress those who don't give a shit about their life.(A slight chuckle) How could one be such a fool is what I ask myself. How could one blind themselves in this cold corrupt world? You have to prepare not for the better, but for the worst, and only hope for the better. At least that's how I feel. What is Progression? Progression can be anything one starts from scratch, and makes that scratch in to something better day by day. Whether it's a certain sport, art, class, game, etc. Some will start on a potential skill at one point in their life, but will never excel. How can one excel? Stay focused, and true to your self. Take care of yourself, before you take care of others. How will you make yourself happy if you are worried about other peoples problems.I'm not saying you can't help others, but you can only say, and do so much for someone. The rest is in their hands.
Where did all of this "PROGRESSION" talk come from? Me!I'm very outspoken and I like to write. I also live up to my theories. I found that formulating your own theories on life can help you better than someone else's theory. The reason why is because we are different. As humans, we all are born from a woman. That woman has a lifestyle. That woman is your mother. When you are born, you are either raised by your mother, father, grandparents, foster parents, both your mother and father, or other relatives. Whoever you are raised by is determined by your mother, if not her. This sets us up (us being the child) in many different environments that will all make us different in the long run. Some of us may have had rich parents, middle class parents, poor parents, or no parents. All in all, we are different. You should get the point.
As we experience life growing up, we all create an outlook on life. How we want to live, what we want to wear, what music we want to listen to, what we want to eat, what we want to do for a living, etc. This all stems from our experience in life from the past and continues throughout the present. You may come across people who have a lot of similarities like you, but we are not the same. I call those people friends. Those you have a lot in common with. Those you build a special bond with, have fun with, and when a serious time comes around, share life experiences with. That's when the differences are obvious. Now on the flip side, some people can't be themselves and make the wrong friends who they can't relate to. That can make a person very weak, and live what I call a lie! How do I know this stuff?Observing people, and coming across cats like this. It's not hard to tell when you are in tact with yourself.
Now what does this have to do with progression?A lot! As individuals we have to make our own route. We can't let others such as parents, grand parents, relatives, friends, coaches, or teachers tell us what we should do with our lives or how we should live our lives. You must set the blueprint your self and follow that blueprint once it is complete. You will be confused for a little while, but within time you will find your calling, and once you do, stick it out 100%. Once you start working hard towards whatever you want to be in life, that's when the pressure is on. You have to focus on that, and make sure nothing gets in the way of what you are trying to do.You can still have fun, but know your limits on fun and try not to get too distracted. That's how you get stuck in one spot.Putting important moves on hold for bullshit that's always gonna be around. This next statement is a pretty bold statement, but friends and family can fuck up your plans if you allow them to as well. Especially family. They might want you to do one thing with your life, and you probably won't want to do it. They may not want you to do anything with your life, and tell you that you will never amount to anything. The main point that I am trying to convey is that only "YOU" know deep down what it is you want to do.Whatever that something is, make sure you PROGRESS!
I have a small circle of friends and family that I deal with on a regular basis. We all have differences. I attack some of theirs and they attack some of mine, but I respect what they want to do and they respect what i want to do. These thoughts were not going through my head 5 years ago, but now at the age of 20, I have seen how life is changing and effecting all of my friends.for some of them it's in a good way, and for most of them, it's in a bad way. I make sure I do what I want to do all the time.some of my friends and family don't like that. Some of the things I do influence my friends and family, but all of them won't be able to pick up what I do because they don't have the passion, and drive to do what I do. they like my craft, and the finished product, but they don't understand what it took to get there, and what needs to be done to get there. The question is would they be willing to put in the work? I get asked to put people on tracks because they are so and so's cousin, or so in so's guy from way back when. People want me to sit them down and show them my techniques, and spend hours out of my time to make them good at what I'm still trying to master myself. Some of my family tells me that I need to quit dreaming and do some shit that I don't give a fuck about. Hearing that shit over and over pisses a nigga off sometime, but I stay humble about it, and try my best to help them out as much as possible without loosing out on my time to develop. I don't have a problem helping people out on certain things, but I look for a sign from god before I help that person.GOD is my instinct. That's how I feel.I know I'm not talking to myself when I'm having that conversation in my head. That person is GOD!
If I feel that a person is serious about getting advice, and really pursuing what I do, I will help them.More than likely this person knows about music, software, and production already, but didn't know how to jump start it. This is where I give my advice that I know and let them go from there. You see, when you influence a lot of people, it always isn't a good thing. You get unwanted attention, and a lot of new comers who try to be your friend just because of what you do. You even get females who want you because of what you do. I have never had a problem with making either one of the two (friends, or girlfriends), but the numbers do go up and you have to be more cautious with who you share certain information with. Even though I have family, friends, and women who are interested in me, I still feel like all I have is me.The only person I can connect with is GOD. I stay strong minded and do what I want to do no matter what anybody says or thinks and PROGRESS!! I set up my own theory on how I want to live, and what i want to do, and I am sticking to that until the day I die. I've heard of it takes two, but in my eyes it only takes one strong black man and a master plan. -P-

A Little Bit About Matcy P
For anyone reading my blog, I want you to know that anything posted or written is straight from me so you will get a one on one with Matcy P.
Name:Mats Fortenberry Jr.
Born: July 10, 1988
Location:Chicago,IL
Today is November 18, 2008, and I just got done reading a few chapters in Russell Simmons' book "Do You." It's a very helpful book, and a little weird at the same time. Especially his theory on meditation (laughing). I might try it one day, maybe it might actually clear all of the noise that's going on in my head. I mean I'm 20 years old, a junior in college, and a lot is going on at this time in my life that requires some serious decision making. I'm in school for IST, (Information Systems & Technology) and I'm all for computers, but some of this shit is boring (laughing). I mean, I came to college because my mother wanted me to go so badly. I have put her through a lot, and feel like I owe her the world, so why not try it out. I didn't know anything about preparing myself for college, nor did I know exactly what I wanted to do as well. I was good with computers so I figured I would major in IST. There is more to computers than I thought I'll tell you that much. I can't see myself doing this for the rest of my life.
Ever since I was a kid I was in to hip-hop, and old school music. I always wanted to do something that involved hip-hop and started writing raps at the age of 13. A friend of mine at the time used a program called Hip Hop Ejay, and I started making beats with that program. I was geeked when I saw how easy it was to make beats on that program, not knowing that every sound in that program was a loop and not a one shot so nothing was original, but I didn't know. That was my first experience with beat making. Eventually I was put on to another program by somebody I went to the Boys & Girls club with called Fruity Loops. This program seemed weak when I was messing around with it, and the name was whack.Fruity Loops?I thought it was worst than Ejay, plus it had a damn fruit for the symbol! I played with this program for a long time after I saw a friend of mine make a beat on it. I saw how complex it actually was. You could do a lot with it once you got more in depth with the program.Ever since that day I stuck with the program and still continue to learn new things about the program till this day. I was 15 when I first started using this program, and a couple of years later I knew what my calling was.
My senior year in high school is when I really was going hard.I was in 2 different rap groups, and producing beats.I was in Vocational school doing Mass Media Arts which had 4 different departments. Radio & Television, Photography, Graphic Design, and Web Design. I utilized the RT department the most because we could record our music better than we could at our houses. I remember it like it was yesterday. It was me and Chub in one group, and me, Smurk, and Twiz in the other group called IZZO Click. Eventually I quit rapping because it took me too long to write, and I couldn't freestyle, but I was good at making beats. I got tired of rapping, but I never got tired of making beats. I was motivated and determined to do whatever it took to become an established, well respected producer. I can care less about what's hot, or having cameras all in my face. I just want to demonstrate my craft the best way I can, and make a career out of this behind the scenes.
Well, that's how I got into making beats, now I will let you know what inspired me to pursue beat making. Once I realized what talent I had, I knew I had to learn more than just beat making. If I want to make this a career, I have to read the job description, and about the music industry. This is where it all began.
In August of 2006, I entered SIUC (Southern Illinois University Carbondale) as a freshman in college. I felt refreshed, because it was a new environment, and I knew I could change for the better. I was a knucklehead in my younger days (laughing). If you know me now and didn't know me then, you would find that funny because you couldn't imagine it. I made sure I studied all of my classwork early, and did my production all night lasting on red bulls. When the weekends came around, I felt like I was in heaven because I could wake up early and bang out tracks all day long without having school on my mind. It also gave me time to network and politic with artists and producers from all over the world through myspace. This was back when myspace didn't have all that bullshit spam and you could market yourself in any way you wanted. I was reading Music Industry books, but some of them didn't make since to me. Maybe because they were old, and focused more on the pop culture. Eventually I decided to look up some hip hop, or urban music industry books because that's what I want to focus my career on. I came across a book entitled "The Music Powers," an urban music industry book written by Cirocco Jones. This book broke down everything from management, a&rs, entertainment attorneys, publishing, copyright, sample clearance, record sales, starting a label, record labels, producing, being an artist, etc..I understood everything with no problem.Anyone should be able to comprehend what was written in that book.To all my brothers out there trying to play a major part in the music industry, GO BUY THAT BOOK!!!!!!I'll even give you the website, www.musicpowers.com.You can even buy it from Barnes & Noble.
After doing my research for doing what I have to do as a beat maker, I became published with ASCAP, got my beats copyrighted, contract written up,manager, and my clientel up!!It all took time, but researching made it simple to do.If I didn't do my homework on this business, I wouldn't have known anything and would have got screwed over or even played myself. These past 2 years I have accomplished a lot.
I have met artists from all over the nation, and have worked with artists from Philly,New York,New Jersey,Boston,Atalanta, and Alabama. I have also worked with artists from my area such as Chicago and Springfield, IL. I am from Chicago and spent my teenage years in Springfield. These are the two cities I am familiar with the most.
In January 2008, I dropped my first mixtape. "Let's Do Business."It showed my development over the years, and was an introduction to my music. Chapter 1 is what I like to call it, or "the beginning." It was hosted by Tru-L who is a artist from Boston,MA. He discovered me and mentored me on the business. He always kept it 100, so I still work with him till this day. He put me on with some cats in Boston that was grindin such as Prano, and Young Rich.I still work with them till ths day, and we definitely all have something in common......GETTIN IT IN!!!! My boy Mack AAO hit me up on the net one day tellin me he was feelin my joints, so we did business and it went from there. His word was bond on the business side and he was raw at rapping so we been doing songs ever since. Mack introduced me to Chuck Da Middleman and he had that crack. He is a dope lyrisist who has experience in the rap game.He is definitely one of the hottest MC's out of Newark, NJ. He is a true MC so we still make hits till this day. On the local side my man Yung J out of Chicago did business with me back in 2007. His word was bond and his style was dope. I had to continue to work with him. It was only right. I remember the day I rode down on him and chopped it up with him face to face. he definitely got some classics in store for the world to witness. Last, but not least my man Agony out of Kankakee did a joint for my mixtape entitled "My Life." This track was nutz!!!We chopped it up on some business a lot and eventually I had to ride down on him.It was only right. He's from Kankakee which is close to Chicago, and he reps his city to the fullest!!!Most cats would have been reppin Chicago, and wouldn't even know what Stony Island, Ashland, or Harolds was!!So you know we still do tracks together.
The group of people I named are what I call the promised. What I mean by that is that they were working with me when I wasn't that good on beats, and still to this day work with me.When I get on and one of them aint on already, i will make sure they get some recognition. This is what I call my hip hop circle.I know it's a crazy name, but I don't need to have new artists on my mixtape to make it better. They are all beasts, and will continue to be on every Matcy P Project.
I am currently working on Let's Do Business Part 2: Official Business, which will feature every artist I named above plus some of my homies from Springfield. 2009 is going to be a great year, and I hope that everyone who loves my music will continue to support me!I will keep everyone updated on what's new with me.-P-
